Uganda hosts over 1.6 million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting nation in Africa. Many refugee women and girls arrive in settlements traumatized by conflict, gender-based violence (GBV), and displacement, with limited access to mental health services, education, and economic opportunities.

AWAGO’s Refugee Program provides a lifeline for refugee women, helping them rebuild their lives through Transcendental Meditation (TM), community wellness circles, and economic empowerment initiatives. Our evidence-based approach has proven that TM significantly reduces stress, PTSD symptoms, and anxiety, empowering participants to reclaim their agency and independence.
