Safe Starts for the next generation
Every child deserves a calm start in life.
Safe Starts is AWAGO’s programme for students and young people, with particular attention to adolescent girls and young mothers in vulnerable communities. Grounded in Transcendental Meditation, the programme combines Quiet Time, mentorship, youth empowerment, and scholarships to strengthen inner calm, confidence, learning, and pathways to opportunity.
Why Safe Starts matters
Children and young people can experience academic pressure, family stress, trauma, social isolation, economic hardship, and uncertainty about the future. These pressures can affect wellbeing, concentration, confidence, relationships, and connection to education.
Safe Starts begins with inner calm because young people need practical tools that help them manage stress, recognise their potential, and approach life with greater stability. AWAGO connects this foundation of inner development with mentorship, education support, trusted information, and pathways to opportunity.
By working in schools and community settings, AWAGO can reach young people wherever learning, personal development, and daily life take place.
Four connected pathways
Quiet Time and Transcendental Meditation
School based stress management, inner calm, focus, and emotional balance.
Mentorship
Guidance from educators, community leaders, and trusted adults.
Youth Empowerment
Confidence, life skills, personal agency, and pathways to opportunity.
Scholarships
Targeted education support for girls, subject to approved criteria and available resources.
Safe Starts in School
A calm mind is ready to learn
Safe Starts in School supports students within schools and school connected learning environments. Quiet Time is the principal school delivery approach. Through Quiet Time, students learn Transcendental Meditation and receive structured opportunities for calm, reflection, and emotional renewal.
AWAGO works with students, educators, school leaders, parents, and caregivers to help create calmer, more focused, and more supportive learning environments.

Who Safe Starts serves
Students experiencing academic, social, or emotional pressure.
Adolescent girls who are vulnerable to leaving school.
Girls who require targeted education support.
Young people who are outside formal education.
Young mothers who need mental wellness, mentorship, and connection to support.

Safeguarding and responsible referral
Safe Starts is a mental wellness, education, and empowerment programme. It does not replace professional mental health care, statutory child protection services, or clinical sexual and reproductive health services.
Where a participant requires specialist support, AWAGO should use approved safeguarding and referral pathways. All activities involving children and young people must follow AWAGO requirements for consent, confidentiality, protection, and responsible storytelling.
